Over the last several centuries, groups of workers who toiled in the same field or endeavor, have joined together in guilds or unions to promote their craft. They sought to achieve just compensation for their labor and to pass along this information to future generations in hopes of perpetuating their craft. Unions through collective bargaining have achieved a higher standard of living for their members and raised the standards for health and safety issues.
